It appears that I never mentioned the nature of Nadia's physical challenge. She has Cerebral Palsy and has undergone four surgical interventions to help mitigate some of the effects and give her more mobility, two of which were on her Achilles tendons, and two of her hip joints, in which she had implants to help correct a dislocation.
The last operation was in the middle of this year and she is still recovering, which restricts her ability to crawl or stand up straight without someone holding her by the waist. Her doctors plan on doing more operations because she still can’t overcome the abduction in her hip joints. Her upper limbs are less spastic than her hips and legs and her left side is better than the right one. She mostly uses her left hand while eating, drawing, or throwing. She can hold a bowl with her right hand while eating with the left one.
Her future is very bright but there is no doubt the road will be challenging. For more information about Cerebral Palsy, visit http://ucp.org/.
The other piece of information is an approximate time line for this adoption. Here are the highlights.
- Our dossier must be submitted early next year.
- Assuming that is approved we will most likely travel in the spring for an initial visit, which will be between 7 and 10 days.
- If we continue the process after that visit, there is a 90 day waiting period.
- After that we will travel back, go to court, get her passport/visa, then bring her HOME!
